Infections in your teeth can occur as a result of many different issues. Cracks in your crowns can extend into the tooth dentin, letting in bacteria. Untreated cavities continue to grow and can enter the inner layers of your teeth. Gum disease allows bacteria in from under the gum line. No matter how bacteria get in, it is crucial to get them out. Infections that go untreated can result in dental abscesses and bacteria in your bloodstream. The only way to remove an infection from your tooth is with endodontic treatment, or a root canal. At National Dental East Meadow we use rotary endodontics
Endodontic TreatmentOn the outside, your teeth look fairly simple. However, underneath the hard, outer enamel lies several structures. The inner layer of your tooth, known as the dentin, contains hollow channels that lead to the roots of your teeth. Pulp also lies inside, which is full of nerves and blood vessels. When bacteria enter the inner portion of your teeth, the pulp becomes inflamed and infected.
When the interior of your tooth is infected, a root canal is required. A small hole is drilled into the top of the affected tooth and small tools are used to remove the pulp, shape the canals and clean and disinfect the interior. Once treatment is complete, the tooth is filled and then finally capped with a ceramic crown.
What is Rotary Endo?In the past, endodontic treatment has been performed manually. Once the hole had been drilled into the tooth, a stainless-steel file was used to clean and shape the interior of your tooth. At National Dental, we use electric tools in a treatment known as rotary endodontics. The tip of the handheld electric tool is made of nickel titanium, which is five times more flexible than stainless steel. Thanks to this flexibility, the tool can easily access curved canals without the risk of damaging them. The ease of use means that your treatment goes much quicker.
Benefits of a Rotary Endo TreatmentRotary Endo treatment has some different benefits:
Easing Dental FearsEndodontic treatment has often been avoided by those patients with fears and anxieties over going to the dentist. There is traditionally a lot of pain and discomfort associated with the procedure. This is because the stainless-steel file is well known for its loud, grinding sounds, which is often associated with pain. With rotary endodontics, you barely notice the hum of the electric tools. With less noise, you are better able to relax. Moreover, your procedure will be quicker than traditional endodontic treatment. You will be back to your normal schedule before you know it.
If you have been diagnosed with an infection in your tooth, or you even suspect that you might have an infection, getting treatment right away is important. Contact National Dental East Meadow today at (516) 962-2292 to schedule your rotary endodontic treatment today!
