There is a big difference between at home dental care and a professional dental cleaning. At home, you are equipped with your toothbrush, toothpaste, floss, mouthwash, and your mirror. At National Dental, we are equipped with a wide variety of specialized tools. These tools allow us to effectively clean even the most stubborn tartar and plaque from your teeth.

There is only so much you can see of your mouth in your bathroom mirror. A dental exam is designed to check all areas of your mouth so that we can make sure your teeth and gums are healthy, and take note of any areas that might be cause for concern.

Digital X-rays are images taken of the hidden structures of your mouth - between your teeth, the roots of your teeth, and the jawbone. That allow us to assess their condition and check for abnormalities. Instead of radiation, digital X-rays rely on electronic technology. The sensor that is placed in your mouth to capture images is hooked up to a computer.

Regular dental cleanings, twice yearly, help to prevent gum disease from occurring. During cleanings, any plaque, tartar (hardened plaque) and bacteria are scraped from the surfaces of your teeth. Along with regular brushing and flossing, this helps to limit the amount of buildup on your teeth, and keep your gums safe from attack.

Diagnosing oral cancer involves more than our visual inspection of your mouth. That inspection is only the first step. If we notice anything unusual in your mouth, then we move forward with further testing. This testing will include digital X-rays and a soft tissue biopsy.
