Your smile says a lot about you. When your smile has imperfections, whether they are chips in your teeth, discoloration or a receded gum line, it can have a negative impact on the impression that you give off to others. Your smile may make you look older than you are, or make people think that you don’t take care of yourself. Your confidence may be shaken, which can lead you to hide your smile. Suddenly, you seem unfriendly. At National Dental East Meadow, we can restore your smile with cosmetic dentistry.
Teeth WhiteningDiscolored teeth, whether from heavily pigmented foods and beverages, smoking, or certain medications, have a profound effect on your smile, and your confidence. There are plenty of over the counter whitening products, but the results are often less than what you had hoped for. At National Dental, we offer two types of professional whitening – in-office and take-home trays. In-office whitening requires only an hour of your time, and your teeth are noticeably several shades whiter right away. Take home trays give you the freedom to whiten on your own time, and usually take about a week for results to show.
Dental BondingBonding is a procedure designed to fix a myriad of minor dental imperfections – chips, cracks, misshapen teeth, teeth with gaps. A composite resin material is applied to the affected teeth, which are treated with a slightly acidic gel that creates a rough texture. It is better able to bond with the tooth on this surface. We then mold and shape the composite resin as needed. It is then dried and finally polished, providing you with a perfect, natural smile.
Porcelain VeneersPorcelain veneers are another restorative option used to fix several different types of minor dental issues. The procedure is slightly more involved than with bonding. Before your veneers (thin, porcelain “shells”) are placed, we first prepare your affected teeth. This means that a small amount of enamel is removed. Your veneers are then bonded to the front surface of your teeth. They provide a beautiful, natural smile, with teeth that are stronger than composite resin.
Ceramic Dental CrownsCeramic crowns are essential “caps” that cover the entire visible portion of a damaged or otherwise compromised, tooth. They are designed to provide both strength and support for your teeth while protecting them from infection and further damage. They can be used in many different situations, such as holding together a cracked tooth or protecting a tooth following a root canal. Before the crowns can be placed, your teeth must first be prepared, or enamel removed. This allows for a comfortable, natural fit. Molds of your mouth allow for the creation of custom dental crowns, which are cemented in place.
Dental ImplantsDental implants are the latest in tooth replacement options. They consist of three major components – the implant (which is surgically inserted into your jawbone), the abutment (or connector) and your replacement tooth, or teeth. Implants rely on osseointegration. When the bone fuses with the implant, a root is established that supports your new tooth (or teeth). There are numerous benefits of implants over traditional replacement options, but quite possibly the biggest one of all is that the implants help to preserve the strength of your jawbone.
Periodontal TreatmentYour teeth are not the only component of your smile. Your gums are just as important. There are a few different types of periodontal treatments that can help to provide you with a beautiful smile. A crown lengthening removes excess gum tissue that creates a gummy smile (which causes your teeth to appear small). Gum recontouring creates a more natural, even gum line. Moreover, gum grafts can be used to restore recessed gum tissue, covering exposed roots, and restoring a more normal size back to your teeth.
