Dental Bonding

Bonding at National Dental East MeadowYour smile can tell people a lot about you. If you have imperfections in your teeth, even minor ones, your beautiful smile is marred, and others will take notice. At National Dental East Meadow, we can restore the beauty of your smile, fixing minor imperfections with dental bonding.

Composite Resin Bonding

Bonding is a procedure designed to help restore small imperfections in your teeth. The material used in the procedure is composite resin, the same material that is also used for tooth-colored fillings. The material is extremely flexible, able to be molded and shaped as needed to achieve the desired results.

Bonding can be used to fix a variety of issues, including:
•  Chips and cracks in your enamel.
•  Gaps between teeth.
•  Teeth that are misshapen.

Dental Bonding Procedure

Bonding is a very simple procedure that can be completed in a single visit. It can often be completed in an hour. It is completely painless and requires no anesthesia of any kind. Before we begin, we completely clean and dry your tooth. Then the tooth is prepared, using a lightly acidic gel at the target locations, creating a rough texture on the surface of your enamel. The rough surface helps the composite resin material to better bond with your tooth. We then wash the gel off, dry your tooth again and apply the material. After we place the composite resin on your teeth, we then shape it as needed to achieve the best aesthetic results. Once finished, the material is dried. Finally, it is polished to a beautiful finish.

Dental Bonding Care

Your bonding will require some special care. The material is not very strong and is highly susceptible to damage. For this reason, you must be careful with what you bite or chew on. Anything exceptionally hard, such as ice or your fingernails, can cause the composite resin material to chip or break. It is also susceptible to staining, and these stains cannot be removed even with professional whitening.

Other than being careful with what you bite or chew on, your bonding can be cared for just like your natural teeth. You should brush and floss it every day. This will help to prevent the buildup of plaque and bacteria that can otherwise lead to gum disease. You should also maintain regular dental visits. While we check the condition of your teeth, we will also inspect your bonding, making sure that the material is in good working order.

Benefits of Dental Bonding

There are a number of different benefits associated with dental bonding:
•  The composite resin material matches the color of your natural teeth.
•  The procedure is completely pain-free. There is no need for even a local anesthetic.
•  It can usually be completed within an hour, meaning that there is minimal interruption in your busy schedule.
•  Bonding is a highly affordable cosmetic option, costing less than procedures like veneers.
•  With your teeth restored, your smile, and your confidence, are restored as well.

With dental bonding, we can restore the small imperfections, making a huge difference in your smile. Contact National Dental East Meadow today at (516) 962-2292 to schedule your appointment.
